The Lifecycle of a Compostable Plate
Share
Remember plate, that you are dust and to dust you shall return.
At Natural Tableware, that sentiment isn’t poetic license—it’s product philosophy. Our plates are made from plant-based materials like sugarcane pulp, bamboo, palm leaves, and birchwood. Real plants, grown in real soil. We take those fibers, blend them with water to form a fine pulp, and shape them into elegant, durable forms using nothing but steam and pressure.
The result? Compostable plates that look just as good serving a wedding entrée as they do holding a rack of ribs at a BBQ.
Made from Nature, Built to Perform
Our products don’t just look good—they hold up under pressure. Literally.
One of our favorite real-life tests involved piping-hot bacon fat. We poured it into our Symbiose Main bowl after frying a glorious batch of BLTs. After an hour—nothing. After several hours—still nothing. It took over 24 hours before saturation finally occurred. That’s not just durability—it’s exceptional performance for a compostable product.
Whether it’s saucy ribs, oily entrees, or fried street food, our products deliver.
Biodegradable and Compostable: Not the Same as Plastic
Unlike foam or plastic, our tableware returns to the earth in a truly natural way. As it breaks down, it releases nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and calcium—elements that enrich the soil.
Plastics, on the other hand, never truly go away. They just become smaller and smaller, breaking down into microplastics that pollute our environment and our bodies. Our products don’t linger—they return to the natural state they came from.
Compostable at Home or in Industrial Facilities
In an ideal world, every city would have a composting facility. Industrial composting speeds up the process and handles larger volumes of waste. But we know the infrastructure isn’t always there.
That’s why we designed our products to work in your world. At home, our plates, cups, straws, and cutlery break down alongside fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, eggshells, and garden clippings. In about 30 days, they return to the earth—no special treatment required.
From Fiber to Fork—and Back Again
Because we’re made from plant fibers—not petroleum—we’ve earned a unique place in the culinary world. Our products support the full life cycle of organic material: grown from the soil, used in service, and returned to the earth.
Palm leaves. Sugarcane. Birchwood. Every item is rooted in sustainability and built for beauty and function. It’s tableware with a conscience—and a purpose.
A Simple Swap That Makes a Real Impact
Wherever and whenever you can, replace plastic with compostable alternatives. Start with one meal. One event. One product switch. You’ll be surprised how good it feels to align your actions with your values.
